Suarez Looking To Cash In
With three goals in four games, Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has made a name for himself at this year's World Cup.
The Ajax player currently is tied for the tournament lead in scoring, while leading his nation to the quarterfinals for the first time since 1970. Today against South Korea, Suarez curled in a superb strike that was Uruguay's game-winning goal.
Already adding to his impressive resume is the fact that the 23-year-old scored 49 goals in all competitions last season for his Dutch club. This string of good form has led to a host of transfer rumors, involving some of the game's biggest clubs in Arsenal and Manchester United.
But the club that may be pushing the hardest to land the Uruguayan's signature is Tottenham. The club will be playing Champions League soccer next season after finishing in fourth place in the English Premier League. With the extra revenue generated from this competition, manager Harry Redknapp will be looking to add to his club after the World Cup.
It is interesting to note that not every manager uses the World Cup to sign the latest young talent. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he will not sign a player based on WC performances. Wenger was quoted as saying:
“In my view, it is dangerous to buy on the back of a World Cup – for one thing, the prices afterwards are always artificial, and for another you have to bear in mind that anyone can have three weeks of glory on a football field. To have ten years of success is quite different.”
