Chamakh Confirms Arsenal Switch

It looks as though Arsene Wenger's first summer signing has been revealed.

Speaking to French sport magazine L'Equipe, Bordeaux forward Marouane Chamakh, 26, told the publication that he will join Arsenal on a free transfer once his contract runs out this summer. Chamakh's confirmation might be the first wave of what could be a very eventful period at the Emirates Stadium.

After finishing a fifth-consecutive season without a trophy, it's no secret that Gunners supporters have been growing restless with the club's current mediocrity. The silverware collection the Arsenal teams of the early 2000s collected seems to have occurred ages ago. Wenger has said that "one or two" additions need to be made in order to strengthen a squad which has seen its share of injury troubles. Chamakh has been on the Frenchman's radar ever since last summer and it looks as though he will be coming to north London.

However, I have a question for Mr. Wenger is: why not focus on your goalkeeping issues? Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski have been the subject of criticism for the entire season. Fabianski, 25, especially has come under fire of late--the Polish keeper's inability to clear a corner kick on Monday against Blackburn highlighted the Gunners' 2-1 loss.

So no matter how many goals you're putting in, if you're not keeping them out then what's the point? A move for someone like Lyon's Hugo Lloris would be something Wenger should consider. There certainly is enough time for something like this to happen.

But for now, Chamakh appears to be the newest member of the Arsenal family. Check out a video of the forward above.
